Although you may find it hard to tear yourself away from Matauri Bay, there are many beautiful beaches that can be visited in a day trip.

Up on the hill overlooking Matauri Bay Holiday Park is the famous Rainbow Warrior Memorial (built by Chris Booth) with a large stone compass indicating where beneath the ocean the Rainbow Warrior Boat wreck is submerged.  You can read more about the Rainbow Warrior here.

Our closest town is Kerikeri, a beautiful town with many activities for the family to enjoy. Other towns in our area include Paihia & Russell.

A fantastic day trip from Matauri Bay for those looking for an adventure, is the drive up to the top of New Zealand and back. This will take a full day and on the way you pass sand dunes the famous Mangonui Fish’n Chip shop. There are also countless beautiful beaches to explore and picnic at. Once you run out of road at the very top of New Zealand there is a short walk on a sealed footpath to the Cape Reinga Light House.
